Veteran actor Rance Howard, who was also the father of the director Ron Howard, passed away at the age of 89. The news of his death was shared by Ron on Twitter today.
"Clint and I have been blessed to be Rance Howard's sons. Today he passed at 89," he tweeted.
"He stood especially tall for his ability to balance ambition with great personal integrity. A Depression-era farm boy, his passion for acting changed the course of our family history. We love and miss you, dad," he added.

Howard, whose profession spread over three decades, acted in more than 100 movies. He likewise showed up in a few of his child's movies, including 'Apollo 13', 'Parenthood', 'Splash', 'How the Grinch Stole Christmas', 'Frost/Nixon' and 'A Beautiful Mind'.
He also starred in Alexander Payne's 'Nebraska' in 2013.
Howard was married to actress Jean Speegle Howard, who died in 2000. Besides Ron, he was also the father of actor Clint Howard. Actors Bryce Dallas Howard and Paige Howard are his granddaughters.
