As one of the 13 teams that participated in the inaugural FIFA World Cup of 1930, Peru national football team represents Peru in all of the international matches. This team is governed by the Peruvian Football Federation (FPF). As one of the 10 members of FIFA’s South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL), the Peru national football team has participated in FIFA World Cup for five times. On January 18, 2018, FIFA ranked Peru in the 11th position.

Before the Peruvian Football Federation formed in 1922, there was the Peruvian Football League which was founded in 1912. Since their debut performance in the 1930 FIFA World Cup, Peru is known to show inconsistent performance.

In March 2015, FPF appointed Ricardo Gareca as the new manager of Peru national football team. It was due to Gareca’s coaching that Peru secured qualification for the 2018 FIFA World Cup hosted by Russia. The current squad in this team has 23 players who were called up for the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification matches.
