France was among the first few countries to qualify in the 1930 inaugural FIFA World Cup hosted by Uruguay. France holds the record of scoring the very first goal in World cup history which was scored by Lucien Laurent. In their first match, France defeated Mexico with a score of 4-1.

France hosted its first World Cup in the year 1938 and again hosted its second World cup in the year 1998. In contrast to France’s first hosting and not winning a title, the second hosting of World Cup led France to its first victory. In the 1998 finals, France defeated Brazil with a score of 3-0.

Before this grand win, France had held the title for becoming third in the 1958 World Cup, fourth in 1982 World Cup, and third in the 1986 World Cup. After its first win, France became the runner-up in the 2006 World Cup hosted by Germany.
As of 18 January 2018, France is in the 9th spot in the FIFA ranking. Including the qualification of 2018 FIFA World Cup, France has made a total appearance of 15 times. Coached by the current Coach/manager Didier Deschamps and Goalkeeper Coach Franck Raviot, the current French squad has 23 palyers.
